Kiunjuri accuses Gachagua of double-speak
Laikipia East Member of Parliament (MP) Mwangi Kiunjuri has cited Rigathi Gachagua as involving himself in a two-sided talk and giving contradictory messages to the people.
In a morning interview with Kameme TV on Monday, February 23, 2026, Kiunjuri portrayed Gachagua as a leader whose utterances mostly go against his own previous sentiments. Kiunjuri has fingered Gachagua on double speak, considering that when he was in government, he said the government did not have money to run, but now he says the government is not working.
“When Rigathi Gachagua was in government. He told Kenyans that the country was broke, but now, because he is not in government, he is telling Kenyans that the government is not working but stealing public money,” Kiunjuri said.

Kiunjuri inquired with a focus on the inconsistency between the Gachagua allegations of grassroots interactions and the lack of commitment to a certain political course. Other than the election interests, Kiunjuri also doubted the claim made by Gachagua that he represents the whole Mt. Kenya region. Such assertions, according to the MP, do not consider the voices of other leaders and parties in the United Opposition coalition.
In his argument, Kiunjuri said that true leadership entails the need to be inclusive, transparent, and have a coherent strategy, rather than statements that seem to contradict or serve any vested interests.
The face-off between politicians has been increasingly high, portraying a mirror of what is happening in Kenyan politics as the country approaches the 2027 general elections.
According to Kiunjuri, Gachagua is seen to motivate sections of his supporters; however, in his opinion, he is likely to drive trust out of the window due to mixed messages. The critique put forward by Kiunjuri is a call to be truthful and direct in the way politics are communicated.

Kiunjuri, who is an advocate of the Kenya Kwanza government, has lately been a critic of the former deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua. He is on record seeking to find out whether Gachagua is going to run as president in the 2027 elections, citing what he called a tendency towards ambiguity.
“Rigathi claims that he is a listener to the ground. Why does he not hear the ground selectively?”Kiunjuri added.
