Kirinyaga governor Anne Waiguru has been elected as the chairperson of the Council of Governors.

Waiguru was elected during an election held at the induction of the county heads in Mombasa county.

The Kenya Kwanza coalition fronted the second-term governor against Azimio’s Joseph Ole Lenku.

The Kajiado county chief had expressed interest in the coveted position alongside Wajir’s Abdullahi Ahmed.

The second-term county chief was elected through a consensus.

Waiguru now becomes the first female governor to rise to the position since the advent of devolution.
