Kipruto Arap Kirwa: Ruto is ruining Gideon Moi’s political career
By Faith Lagat, October 13, 2025Former Agriculture Cabinet Minister Kipruto Arap Kirwa has criticised President William Ruto’s recent political engagement with KANU Chairman Gideon Moi, accusing the Head of State of undermining Moi’s political trajectory.
Kirwa’s comments came during a discussion on a local TV station on October 13, 2025, where he voiced disappointment over Ruto’s approach. “I was not only shocked but also disappointed to see Gideon Moi with Ruto at State House,” Kirwa stated, highlighting his concern over the perceived sidelining of Moi.
Concerns over strategic political moves
Kirwa argued that Ruto’s approach lacked transparency and a long-term strategy.
“Personally, I want to tell my brother Gideon Moi that if President Ruto were an honest person, he would have had a conversation with him, allowed Gideon to run for the Senate position in Baringo, and wooed his party to Kenya Kwanza. Instead, he is dismantling his political career,” he said.
The former minister emphasised the potential role Gideon Moi could play in future politics.
“I would have expected Gideon Moi to play a greater role come 2032,” Kirwa noted.
He added, “I am not suggesting that Gideon Moi to be the next president after Ruto but, in terms of political hygiene you cannot just tell somebody who is about to get a seat to leave the seat for the purpose of sowing unity.”

Kirwa also described the tactical implications: “Gideon could have easily become more useful to Ruto if he had been allowed to be the senator of Baringo so that they could negotiate at the level of party leaders.” He further criticised the approach, saying, “When you do this, it shows the level of deceit, greed and the level of dismissal for individuals you do not consider very important.”
Broader opposition reaction
Kirwa’s remarks come amid wider opposition criticism. Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, accompanied by PLU leader Martha Karua and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, also condemned Ruto’s alliance with Moi.
Kalonzo stated, “We will reach out to William Ruto himself and tell him wachana na kusumbua Gideon Moi na Gideon Moi hata ilipatiwa hiyo kazi, we chukua fanya kazi na uchaguzi ikifika wachana na William Ruto aroast alone because he has committed economic crimes.“
Gachagua echoed these concerns during a church service on October 12, 2025, accusing Ruto of double standards in his political dealings.
“Ruto ameita Gideon Moi, wameongea, na akasema anaunganisha watu wake huko nyumbani ndio apate amani na hataki sisi tuwe na amani hapa Mlima Kenya. Yeye akiunganisha watu wake anasema ni umoja wa kitaifa, nikiunganisha watu hapa anasema ni ukabila,” he said.
