Kindiki endorses Boyd Were’s candidacy for Kasipul parliamentary seat
By Luke Oluoch, October 31, 2025Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has thrown his weight behind the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) aspirant Boyd Were to take over the Kasipul parliamentary seat ahead of the upcoming November 27 elections.
Speaking during an empowerment drive in Kasipul, Homa Bay County, on Friday, October 31, 2025, Kindiki stated that his endorsement was in the spirit of the broad-based arrangement signed by President William Ruto and the late ODM leader, Raila Odinga.
Supporting ODM candidate
“We decided that as the UDA, we will support the ODM’s candidate in Kasipul. ODM’s candidate here is Kasipul, who is our candidate too, and he is this young man, Boyd Were. He is the candidate of the broad-based government. Let no one come here and lie to you that they are in the broad-based,” he stated.

“Raila ameacha chama kwa Oburu Odinga akisaidiwa na akina Gladys Wanga, John Mbadi, na Opiyo Wandayi. Mtaendelea kushikilia broad-based?” he implored.
The DP affirmed that the UDA will also support ODM candidates in Ugunja and Magarini as ODM returns the favours in Malava and Banisa Constituencies.
Were, who clinched the ODM party ticket following highly contested primaries, is set to face off against ten other aspirants in the November race.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officially cleared the ten for the Parliamentary seat on Sunday, October 12, 2025.
Among the leading contenders for the race is Philip Aroko, a local grassroots mobiliser and flashy businessman.
The flamboyant independent candidate is expected to challenge the ODM stranglehold of Kasipul politics and usher in new leadership, according to his campaign pledge.
Aroko rides on both controversy and wide appeal as he seeks to wrestle ODM’s stranglehold on politics in Homa Bay County.
Despite describing himself as a full and permanent member of the ODM, he elected not to contest the party’s primaries exercise that resulted in Boyd Were’s earning the honours to be the flagbearer.
Others in the race are Robert Ajwang, also known as Money Bior, Collins Okeyo of the Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) party. The party is associated with Ugenya MP David Ochieng.
Others are Linda Ouma, Omondi Koyoo, among others.
