Kindiki congratulates DCP’s Sammy Kamau for winning Ol Kalou
By Faith Lagat, July 16, 2026Deputy President Kithure Kindiki on Thursday, July 16, 2026, congratulated Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Sammy Douglas Waweru Kamau ahead of the completion of vote tallying in the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election.
In a post on X after polling stations closed, Kindiki wrote: “Congratulations Sammy Douglas Waweru Kamau on your imminent victory in the by-election held today for the MP seat for Ol Kalou constituency. Unite the residents and serve them all without distinction.”
He also commended the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate Samuel Muchina for what he described as “a good show and a mature, issue-based campaign devoid of insults.”
“You may not have succeeded today, but your star shines bright into the future,” Kindiki added.
Vote tallying ongoing
Kindiki’s remarks came even as the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) had not completed tallying, verification and declaration of the Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election results.
The by-election was held following the death of former Ol Kalou MP David Njuguna Kiaraho in March 2026.
As counting continued, provisional results from polling stations showed DCP candidate Sammy Kamau leading. However, the IEBC remained the only body mandated to declare the official outcome after completing verification of all results.

In a brief statement posted on Facebook, Muchina said: “Congratulations Sammy Kamau Waweru. Go serve the people of Ol Kalou Constituency.”
The concession came as vote counting continued across the constituency.
IEBC urges patience
The IEBC urged the public to rely only on official communication from the Commission as tallying continued.
The electoral agency also warned polling officials against violating the Code of Conduct or the Election Offences Act, saying disciplinary and legal action would be taken against anyone found culpable.
The Commission further condemned isolated incidents of violence and disruption reported during the voting process and called for calm as the exercise progressed.
Voter turnout had reached about 50.78 per cent by 3:00 pm.
Earlier Ol Kalou remarks
Kindiki’s message comes months after he vowed to politically confront former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in the Ol Kalou by-election, which both camps viewed as a key contest in the Mt. Kenya region.
Speaking during an economic empowerment event in Nyandarua County in May, Kindiki said the Ol Kalou by-election would be the contest where he would politically “deal with” former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
“We have a by-election coming up in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua; we will meet with that man. We will deal with him squarely, and that is where respect will start reigning,” Kindiki said.
The Ol Kalou by-election has attracted national attention, with leaders across the political divide weighing in before the Commission announces the official results.
The IEBC is expected to declare the winner after completing verification and tallying of all votes cast in the constituency.
