Kindiki asks to be left out of Meru succession politics
By Luke Oluoch, August 13, 2025Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has asked Tharaka Nithi constituents to excuse him from the region’s local succession politics, stressing that he will only be involved in the politics of the presidential race.
In a move aimed at countering impending political divisions within the Embu and Meru counties, the DP stated that he would not be fronting or endorsing any candidates from the region.
He categorically stated that the declaration will also extend to individuals aspiring to be governors down to the MCA levels.

“I want to respectfully ask you to allow me to deal with the national politics. Do not tell me to front a person to be an MCA or an MP. I used to do that long time ago, but now all these candidates are my friends, and I leave that work for you.
“The politics we will do together is that of electing the president,” he stated during a function on Wednesday, August 13, 2025.
“At home here, I ask you to pray for us, our president, and our government,” he stated.
He further stated that he was ready to work out positions in government for those who were trounced in the elections.
“The one you will elect as governor is one of us. Those who will not be successful will also be one of us. I will be in a high office in Nairobi and will find something for them. Let them compete on a clean heart and on who advances the better vision for the people,” he said.
His sentiments come ahead of a looming political battle for the vacant Mbeere North parliamentary seat.
The seat was left vacant following Geoffrey Ruku’s appointment as Public Service Cabinet Secretary and is set to ignite a fierce battle between the Democracy for Citizens Party led by Rigathi Gachagua and the ruling Kenya Kwanza regime.
Additionally, the Umoja na Maendeleo Party (UMP), under the leadership of former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, also announced its participation in the upcoming by-elections.
“UMOJA NA MAENDELEO Party will participate in the upcoming by-elections,” she announced. “Parliamentary Seats: Magarini Constituency, Kilifi County, Banissa Constituency, Mandera County, Ugunja Constituency, Siaya County, Malava Constituency, Kakamega County; Mbeere North Constituency, Embu County and Kasipul Constituency, Homa Bay County,” Mwangaza said.
