Kigame cites political witch-hunt in KRA summons

By , August 4, 2025

2027 presidential hopeful and gospel artist Reuben Kigame has wondered why the Kenya Revenue Authority is so concerned about unfiled taxes while leaders such as Ruto are dishing out money anyhow.

Taking to his X handle on Monday, August 4, 2025, barely days after he received a summons from KRA, Kigame accused the tax agency of using double standards.

He linked the move to a recent legal petition he filed against senior government officials.

KRA under fire

Kigame questioned the timing of the KRA’s interest in his finances.

“KRA is keen on knowing how I pay my taxes one day after I sue Kenya’s top security bosses,” he posted.

He said it was suspicious that his taxes were suddenly a priority.

The artiste claimed that those in power often move without scrutiny.

“But KRA will not question how Sonko or Ruto have made the millions they are promising Harambee Stars,” he added.

His comments were about recent public pledges made by President William Ruto and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to reward Harambee Stars for their victory over the DRC Congo.

Call for Fairness

Kigame said he had no problem with paying taxes.

However, he insisted that the law should be applied equally to everyone.

He asked why public officials are not held to the same standards.

“Some of us are struggling to survive. Yet we are followed and questioned while others promise houses and millions on national TV,” he wrote.

His post sparked debate online, with supporters saying his voice represents many Kenyans who feel overtaxed and underrepresented.

Kigame has long been known for speaking out on governance, human rights, and fairness.

This is not the first time he has criticised the current administration.

He ran for president in 2022 but was barred by the electoral commission over signature requirements, a move he later challenged.

As 2027 draws closer, Kigame seems to be positioning himself again as a bold and outspoken candidate.
