Trade Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Evans Kidero on Saturday, April 8, led United Democratic Alliance (UDA) grassroots membership registration exercise in Homa County.

Kidero said the registration exercise will pave way for the opening of the party offices in the county.

“United Democratic Alliance (UDA) grassroots membership registration began in earnest in Homa Bay County today open.

“Local leaders and myself had a successful meeting at Goono Konyuka Resort where grassroots leaders from all the 40 Wards were trained on the process and issued with party membership documents.

“This marks the beginning of massive membership drive that will culminate into the official launch of the party and opening of Homa Bay branch office,” he said.

The ruling party has been in a charm-offensive exercise to win support from the Nyanza region.

Last month, UDA Secretary General Cleophas Malala opened new party offices in Kisumu and Siaya Counties.

UDA offices burnt down

However, during opposition protests last month, the party offices were set ablaze by people believed to be supporters of the Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya coalition leader Raila Odinga.

Siaya office was burnt down to ashes while cars and windowpanes were destroyed in the Kisumu party office.

In a statement, Malala called on the police to arrest persons behind the attack, saying the protesters were misusing the right to picket and demonstrate to cause physical harm and destroy property.

Malala also alleged that UDA supporters were attacked and injured by Azimio protesters in Migori.

“Picketing and demonstrating as enshrined in article 37 of our constitution should not be abused and misused to cause physical harm or destroy property,” he said.
