Kibagendi dismisses claims that Matiangi is not fully committed to opposition
Kitutu Chache South Member of Parliament Antony Kibagendi has dismissed claims that former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is not fully committed to the United Opposition.
Speaking during an interview on Alfa House on Friday, October 24, 2025, Kibagendi affirmed that Matiang’i remains an active and devoted member of the coalition, emphasising that his contribution to the opposition’s unity and strategy ahead of the 2027 elections cannot be understated.
According to Kibagendi, differences in political style among members of the United Opposition should not be mistaken for disunity or lack of commitment.
He explained that just as former leaders such as Mwai Kibaki and Raila Odinga had distinct personalities and approaches but worked toward the same national goals, the same applies to the current opposition figures.

He noted that while some politicians may appear more aggressive or outspoken, others, like Matiang’i, are more reserved yet equally effective in driving the shared agenda.
“Matiangi is fully committed to the United opposition. We cannot live by someone’s script. All these people that are running in the opposition are all candidates, or are all aspirants?” Kibagendi stated
“Yeah, so when we have one who seems to be overreaching, and he’s the one who has a script on how everybody should operate. You know, we all have different personalities. Yeah, that we can be an aggressive person and I can be a slightly more reserved person, but we all push the same agenda.”
Kibagendi stressed that Matiang’i’s commitment to the United Opposition is unwavering, adding that his focus remains on ensuring that President William Ruto is not re-elected in 2027. He said the former CS has been working behind the scenes to strengthen the opposition and enhance coordination among its leaders.
Jubilee united opposition feud
His remarks come days after speculation arose suggesting that Matiang’i was distancing himself from the coalition, sparking tension between the United Opposition and the Jubilee Party.

The situation escalated after Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni accused former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of attempting to intimidate Matiang’i by advising him to form a Kisii-based political party instead of working under Jubilee.
