Kiambaa MP Kawanjiku accuses Gachagua of witch-hunt
By Nancy Marende, November 3, 2025Kiambaa Member of Parliament (MP) John Njuguna Kawanjiku has accused the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader, Rigathi Gachagua, of engaging in political witch-hunts and divisive politics within the Mt. Kenya region.
Speaking on Monday, November 3, 2025, Kawanjiku dismissed Gachagua’s efforts to consolidate the region under his leadership, saying that Gachagua was using coercion and intimidation rather than dialogue and respect to assert political control ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“Whatever you are, that is a non-issue to me. The politics of 2027 will shape itself, and when that particular time comes, we will definitely decide where we are going to go and who we are going to vote for as our president, or probably where we will be able to take our vote,” he said.
Furthermore, he emphasised that Mt Kenya leaders should focus on unity built on mutual respect, not fear or manipulation.
“I told him, ‘If you want to bring people together, bring everybody on board, including Uhuru. Give him the respect that he deserves. But I refuse to participate in that business of going to steal Mama Ngina’s mbuzi,” he added.
Gachagua’s remarks
This comes a day after Gachagua decried that the current leaders in the Mt Kenya region lacked the capacity to fulfill their mandate, while acknowledging that Raila had given a platform to great minds in the ODM party.
Speaking during the Ngemi Cia Watho Association Festival in Gatanga Constituency, Murang’a County, on Saturday night, November 1, 2025, Gachagua stated that the lawyers played a critical role in insulating the late former prime minister.

“But most importantly, all his political party, all the legislators are top-notch lawyers. These are the people who have protected Raila for 30 years,” Gachagua explained.
“If you look at Raila’s team, James Orengo, Otieno Kajwang, Caroli Omondi, Peter Kaluma, Edwin Sifuna, Sterward Madzavyo, Millie Odhiambo, Tom Ojienda, Mohammed Faki, Babu Owino. Great minds – then Nyinyi Mnanipitia Wamatinga, Wamakeki. My people, your leader is in trouble; he has no foot soldiers,” he added.
Ahead of the 2027 elections, Gachagua pleaded with the Mt Kenya residents to embrace Raila’s style and elect over 40 lawyers.
“I am requesting you to give me 40 lawyers,” Gachagua said.
Gachagua decried a trend in which most elites from the region only vote and then leave, leaving the region open to manipulation. In a lengthy talk, the former DP insisted that the learned people from the Mt Kenya region must step up and take up leadership positions.
