Khalwale reveals reason for being dewhipped by Ruto from Senate role
By Luke Oluoch, December 13, 2025Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has accused President William Ruto of orchestrating his demotion as the Senate Majority Whip.
Speaking at his Ikolomani backyard on Saturday, December 13, 2025, Khalwale told the gathering that his predicament emanated from confronting the president over his plans and agenda for the Luhya community.
“The president has relieved me of my duties not because I cannot work but because I confronted him and asked him to let us sit at the table and outline what his plans were for the Luhya community,” he stated.
“I asked him to outline what his plans for the Luhya community were. You cannot just say you will give him two terms without him enumerating the plans he has for us,” he stated.
He also reiterated his earlier remarks, claiming to be the one who introduced Ruto to the Luhya people.
According to Khalwale, the consultation on whether the region should rally under the president’s reelection should be centred around him.
“I am the one who brought him to Luhyaland, and I must be consulted before we decide whether to give him a second term or not,” he added.
His remarks come after his unceremonious dewhipping as the majority whip in the Senate.

Kingi announced the decision on December 2, 2025, confirming that Bungoma Senator David Wafula Wakoli had replaced Khalwale following a resolution by the majority party.
After the ouster, the senator accused the party of sidelining him from important party functions such as the National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings despite being a member of the ruling party.
“Even when they hold meetings, I am a member of the NEC of UDA, but I am never informed,” Khalwale said.
Khalwale further blamed the ruling coalition for the continued attempts to disregard the region, which he claims is not counted at the national level.
“I have refused to accept that Luhyas don’t count. I am saying that in 2027, this time we will be counted, and we will be known. I will make sure that in 2027, Kakamega gets a seat at the national table,” he affirmed.
