On Sunday, November 9, 2025, the two led the campaigns where they urged residents of Lukume village in West Kabras, Malava Constituency, to rally behind Seth Panyako for the MP mini-polls later in the month. The gathering marked the start of a day-long series of rallies across Lukume and Malava Kabras.

Bungoma gubernatorial aspirant Zachariah Barasa and several other regional leaders and aspirants were also present to express their solidarity with Panyako.

”Together, we stand united in our shared vision of a prosperous and empowered region, one conversation, one rally, and one collective voice at a time,” Natembeya said.

Recently, Khalwale hailed the move by the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) to withdraw their candidate, Edgar Busiega, from the Malava by-election in favour of DAP-K’s Seth Panyako.

Khalwale described the move by Busiega and his party as standing on the right side of history by joining Panyako’s team, which, according to their internal opinion polls, shows Panyako as the frontrunner among other candidates.

“Congratulations to Team Edgar Busiega for joining the big dream and standing on the right side of history by so graciously stepping down unconditionally for Seth Panyako. The Malava by-election is coming around just fine. Khuli muluchendo…” Khalwale stated.

Ruto cautioned

On national politics, Khalwale has cautioned that President William Ruto’s acceptance in Kakamega will be tough without him, as the Head of State seeks his second term in office in the 2027 general election.

The legislator has warned President Ruto against belittling the influence he has at the grassroots level, insisting that Ruto’s votes in Kakamega will depend on the relationship the two leaders will have by then.

”The development we are asking for is not because of the by-election; it is because we are demanding a payback for voting for the president. Whether we vote for our candidate or yours, Your Excellency, it is we who you will run to in 2027 when things get thick,” Khalwale said in a video posted on his social media pages on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

Panyako is set to face off against his closest rival for the seat, David Ndakwa of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), in the November 27, 2025, by-elections, triggered by the death of the previous MP, Malulu Injendi, in February 2025.
