Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale on Saturday, July 12, 2025, gave President William Ruto advice and conditions on how he would secure votes from the Western region in 2027.

The vocal senator addressing locals told the head of state that he can only secure votes in the region if he delivers tangible development projects, specifically in Kakamega, where he played a critical role in convincing the electorate to back his presidential bid in the 2022 general election.

Khalwale detailed that the residents are eager to get better roads, elevation of the hospital, and the Kakamega Airstrip.

President William niko nyumbani mimi ndio uyu mwenye nilikuleta mbele ya hawa watu, na hawa watu ndio hawa hawa wenye wataumua kama utakuwa one term ama two term,” Khalwale stated.

Dawa ni hii your excellency, hapa kwetu ukitengeneza hii barabara yetu nimesema na izo zingine sisi tulikubaliana na wewe, utengeneze kiwanja yetu ya ndege hapa Kakamega, utengeneze hospital yetu iwe ya level 6 watu wetu waache kuenda Eldoret and Kisumu, you will have no problem,” he added.

Loosely translated as “President William Ruto, I am at home and I am the one who introduced you to these people and they are the one who will determine whether you will serve for one term or get a second term,” Khalwale stated.

“The only medicine is if you make the road I have talked about and others we agreed upon, you rehabilitate the airstrip here in Kakamega and elevate the hospital here to Level 6 so that these people will stop going to Eldoret and Kisumu. If you do that will have no problem,” he added.

Mobilising for votes

The Kakamega senator made it clear that if Ruto honours the pledges, he would personally move around and convince people to vote for him.

Failure to do that, Khalwale told the president to face the residents come 2027 and convince them himself.

“If you do that, you will not even come here, I will move around and mobilise votes for you, but if you don’t do that, come yourself and request votes,” Khalwale stated.

Khalwale has been vocal, and in recent times, he has called out the Kenya Kwanza administration over various directives and policies.

The senator was among those who pushed for Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen’s resignation, insisting that he had failed to keep the country safe.

“CS Murkomen, the National Security Council where you sit is charged with promoting and guaranteeing security of the country, and you have the audacity to come and face the Parliament of Kenya and tell Kenyans that you don’t see and you don’t know.

“Please, for the respect of this young man, you are yet to grow a child up to the age of 31, can you immediately resign? You are not fit to be in that docket. It is not personal. You cannot be an inspiration to be in the cabinet,” said Khalwale.

The UDA senator made the remarks after Murkomen appeared before the Senate to answer questions on the death of Albert Ojwang.

Moreover, he recently castigated the government, claiming that it had abandoned the Western region following the formation of the broad-based government.
