Kericho governor impeachment trial Day 2: Senate gears up for 5-hour session

The trial, which seeks to determine whether Governor Mutai should be removed from office, is being closely watched as a litmus test for accountability and governance at the county level.
According to the Senate order paper for the day, the session begins with the continuation of evidence presented by the County Assembly. This includes testimonies from witnesses, followed by cross-examination and re-examination.
Senators are then expected to pose questions or seek clarifications before the Governor presents his evidence and witnesses.
The schedule allows for a total of five hours of presentations and examinations, with a maximum of three hours allocated to the Governor for evidence by witnesses and re-examination, while the County Assembly has a maximum of two hours for cross-examination and further re-examination.
The proceedings are expected to conclude with senators’ questions and requests for clarification before an adjournment at around 7:30 pm.
