Karungo wa Thang’wa faults Wanga for politicising Raila mourning period
By Kiprono Keileb, October 22, 2025Kiambu Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa has taken issue with Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, accusing her of turning the mourning period of the late Raila Odinga into a political contest.
Through a post shared on his official X account on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Karungo criticised the governor for what he termed as misplaced priorities during a time when the country is grieving the loss of the former Prime Minister.

“Instead of Governor Affordable Wanga fighting for justice for the four people who were shot dead in Kasarani during Baba’s viewing, she is out there forcing people to mourn, and at the same time giving ultimatums on where to mourn and where not to mourn. Bure Kabisa,” the senator wrote.

His remarks came amid growing public concern over how political leaders are handling the national mourning period following Raila’s passing. Karungo’s post appeared to question Wanga’s approach, suggesting that the focus should instead be on ensuring accountability for the lives lost during the viewing of Raila’s body.
In his post, Karungo also took a light jab at the political alliances forming around Raila’s death, saying, “Anyway, at least they’ve got Wanga and Kaluma, we’ve got Mutahi, we are looking for one more and we’ll be equals,” he stated.
Karungo’s statement adds to the growing list of political voices weighing in on how leaders conducted themselves during RailaOdinga’s time of mourning and burial.

His call for justice for the four victims in Kasarani resonates with many Kenyans who have been demanding accountability for the tragic incident that occurred during what was meant to be a peaceful viewing of the late opposition leader’s body.
As the nation continues to mourn, Karungo’s post highlights the underlying tensions among political leaders and the ongoing struggle between calls for justice and the politics surrounding Raila’s final farewell.
