Karua’s PLP launches 2-day rally across Kirinyaga and Nyeri counties
People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has announced the launch of a two-day political rally dubbed the Purple Train, set for April 24 and 25, 2026.
In a statement on her X account on Thursday, April 23, 2026, Karua said the tour will begin in Kirinyaga County before proceeding to Nyeri, as the party seeks to rally support and expand its grassroots presence ahead of the party’s 2027 general elections.
Karua further noted that the People’s Liberation Party is aimed at positioning itself as an inclusive political platform for Kenyans seeking reform and equitable governance.

“The #PurpleTrain is on the move. Tomorrow we start in Kirinyaga and continue to Nyeri on Saturday. A movement built on justice, service, and leadership that actually works for the people,” Karua stated.
“The People’s Liberation Party is a home for every Kenyan who believes in a better and fairer Kenya. A home for change. Together, we move towards a Kenya we know is possible.”
Stopovers
Karua stated that the tour will make stops in several towns across Kirinyaga County, including Kamuthanga, Kianjang’a, Mukinduri, Kagio, Kangai, Karira, and Ngurubani.
The PLP rally comes amid her weeks of absence from the United Alternative Government’s joint activities, which have been on the streets campaigning for the next election polls.

Karua has recently declared that her time as a running mate has come to an end.
Speaking on her future within the opposition coalition during an interview with a local station on Monday, March 30, 2026, Karua revealed that her ambition is to be the sole candidate to fly the opposition flag, stating her intention to try her best to secure that position.
“Tulipokubaliana kuungana, tulisema tutatoa mgombea mmoja wa urais. Ndani ya muungano huo, nitajitahidi kwa kila njia kuhakikisha mimi ndiye nitakayebeba bendera ya muungano,” Karua said.
Joint activities
The opposition bigwigs on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, commenced their rally at Kitui West under the banner of the United Alternative Government (UAG), launching a two-day tour aimed at consolidating grassroots support in what has long been considered Kalonzo’s political stronghold.

The visit, spanning April 22 and 23, cuts across multiple constituencies, including Kitui West, Mwingi West, Mwingi Central, Kitui Central, Kitui East, Kitui Rural, and Kitui South, an expansive outreach designed to solidify regional unity.
Key in the tour is a broader political calculation: building a formidable voting bloc that could rival President Ruto’s national base. The anti-government team are pitching what they describe as a strategic alliance between the Mt Kenya region and the Akamba community.
