Karua to Raila: Stop the dishonesty and join govt honourably

By , September 5, 2025

Former Azimio presidential candidate Martha Karua has challenged Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Leader Raila Odinga to cease engaging in politics of dishonesty and take a stance on his association with President William Ruto.

Speaking during an interview with a local radio station on Wednesday, September 5, 2025, Karua stated that the veteran politician ought to formalise his relationship with the Kenya Kwanza government rather than pretending not to be part of it.

According to the People’s Liberation Party leader, recent political events such as the joint PG meeting between UDA and ODM are testimony to ODM’s position in government.

Obstructing

“My advice to Raila is: Do not continue the politics of dishonesty. Being in government with one leg and occupying committees that belong to the opposition both in the National Assembly and the Senate, you are obstructing the work of holding government to account. Got to government honourably as the law requires,” she stated.

The lawyer further opines that by holding their recent stance of not being in government, Raila and his ODM party are in stark betrayal of the very constitutional order that he vehemently advocated for.

Constitutional order

“Raila and ODM were at the forefront of the campaign for this constitution, and it is unfortunate that they are now partners in destroying the constitutional order,” she added. “They deny they have a post-election pact but also refer to an agreement of ten points, which they have failed to table to the registrar of political parties,” she asserted.

Karua’s sentiments come after her opposition wingman, Kalonzo Musyoka, appealed to the ODM party to formally accept being part of the government and cede its opposition role.

“This behaviour by ODM being with one leg in the opposition and the other with Ruto. They need to make a decision now. I hear they have been called for a joint PG meeting with Ruto,” Kalonzo stated.

“ODM has one leg in the government and one leg in the opposition. They should do the honorable thing—should they consummate the marriage on Monday to UDA with a Joint PG—and vacate the offices of the Minority, including the Leader and Chief Whip of both Houses,” he added.

Kalonzo opined that the opposition remains keen on assuming their role as the government watchdog after Raila Odinga and his Orange Democratic Movement closed ranks with the Kenya Kwanza regime.

“They should move and join together so that we know the opposition within the opposition has a responsibility to have a new team. We have able and competent legislators like Babu Owino, who is here,” he stated.
