Azimio la Umoja -One Kenya co-principal Martha Karua has clarified on the motive to collect 10 million signatures.

Speaking during an interview with Spice FM, the Narc Kenya party leader explained that the motive for the drive was to show the number of Kenyans that support the Azimio cause.

“The people will hold their own referendum of signatures so that by the time we hit a threshold of 10 million signatures, we will know a majority of Kenyans are speaking,” she stated.

“It is literally a body count of those supporting the clause,” she added.

While emphasizing that the move provides a platform for Kenyans to directly exercise their will and sovereignty, Karua added that the coalition is focused on holding as many meetings as possible with Kenyans.

“Since the elected representatives have refused or are tone deaf to the people’s cries and needs. It is time to exercise that sovereignty directly,” she stated.

Adding: “Since there is no place enough to hold a general meeting of the Kenyan public, we will hold as many meetings all over the country.

The coalition’s head Raila Odinga on Friday, July 7, 2023, launched a signature collection drive.

At the time, Raila announced that the faction was targeting 10 million signatures by Friday, July 14, 2023, with the motive of impeaching the President.

“Ruto is imposing taxes without our consent and implementing laws that only make our lives more difficult. We cannot tolerate the current state of taxation and its accompanying injustices any longer,” Raila stated.
