In a show of cross-party solidarity, People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has publicly endorsed Samburu West Member of Parliament (MP) Naisula Lesuuda.

On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Karua posted on X: “Go Naisula Go!” This came in response to Lesuuda’s message the previous day, where she dismissed rumors about deputising Jackson Lekumontare and reaffirmed her commitment to deliver on her promises.

Lesuuda reiterated her intent to defend her Samburu West MP seat for a third term while signalling her long-term ambition to contest the governorship in 2032, using hashtags #InspiringSamburuwest and #GodblessSNL to rally supporters.

“Naisula Lesuuda has dismissed reports claiming she will deputise Hon. Jackson Lekumontare, saying she remains focused on delivering her promises. She confirmed she will defend her Samburu West MP seat for a third term, with plans to contest the governorship in 2032.#InspiringSamburuwest #GodblessSNL,” read Lesuuda’s post on X dated September 1.

Lesuuda’s electoral performance mirrors this resilience; she won the 2022 Samburu West parliamentary seat with 15,855 votes in a competitive, male-dominated field, becoming the first woman to represent the constituency.

Her growing influence and record of breaking barriers likely resonate with Karua, a figure recognised for championing women’s participation in politics and the legal profession.

Calls for Fairness

Lesuuda has recently navigated complex political clarifications, including criticism of parliamentary double standards. On August 28, 2025, she challenged the Senate’s handling of nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba’s defiance against her party, highlighting past instances where nominated senators opposed former President Uhuru Kenyatta without facing consequences. “What’s good for the goose must always be good for the gander,” Lesuuda stated, calling for consistent application of the law over political convenience.

The remarks followed Orwoba’s dramatic standoff on August 27, when her vehicle was towed after blocking the Senate gate, sparking protests and police action. Lesuuda’s stance aligns with broader public discontent over governance and fairness, reflected in recent demonstrations and reports of police brutality.

Karua’s backing may represent a strategic alignment, merging Lesuuda’s local influence with Karua’s national stature.

As Lesuuda prepares to defend her seat and eye future gubernatorial ambitions, this endorsement could strengthen her political position in Samburu West and signal potential shifts in Kenya’s broader political landscape leading up to 2032.
