The Kenya African National Union (KANU) Youth Congress has come out to reject the recent union between President William Ruto and their party leader, Gideon Moi.

In a statement released by the youth league on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the group said it had fully dissociated itself from the newfound partnership between KANU Chairman Gideon Kipsielei Towett Moi and President William Ruto.

“We, the KANU Youth Congress, fully dissociate from the newfound partnership between our National Chairman, Hon. Gideon Kipsielei Towett Moi, and H.E. President William Ruto.” The youth league stated.

The youth wing stated that its values, and those of the party at large, are built on the promotion of accountability, transparency, respect for human rights, and the upholding of the rule of law. These principles, they noted, continue to guide their participation in leadership and governance across the country.

The group maintained that the government should focus on serving the interests of the people, insisting that no partnership or coalition agreement can rescue a regime that disregards the Constitution and undermines the rule of law.

They further argued that KANU’s values and ideologies do not align with the government’s involvement in abductions, enforced disappearances, human rights violations, corruption, and general disregard for democratic institutions. According to the youth congress, such practices erode public trust and cannot be justified through any political agreement.

“It is worth noting that our values and ideologies do not intertwine with the consistent abductions and subsequent killings, enforced disappearances, human rights violations, corruption, and total disregard of the rule of law but emphasisethe promotion of the rule of law, democracy and independence of institutions. No agreement can validate the undoings of this government to the citizenry.” They added.

The youth leaders urged the government to urgently address key issues affecting the nation, including the crisis in the health sector, the high cost of education, and rising unemployment. They called for reforms to make education more affordable and accessible, a revival of social services, and prioritisation of industrialisation over heavy taxation.

They also dismissed the notion of a “broad-based government”, describing it as political hypocrisy aimed at consolidating the interests of the political elite rather than addressing the needs of ordinary citizens.

Message to young people

In their message to young people across the country, the KANU Youth Congress encouraged mass voter registration and active participation in governance. They emphasised that it is the responsibility of every young person to take part in shaping Kenya’s political future through civic engagement and progressive leadership.

The KANU Youth Congress statement was shared on the party’s official Facebook page but later deleted.

These come after President Ruto met with Gideon Moi at State House before proceeding to his Kabarak home.
