Kaluma: Karua going nowhere without Raila
By Joel Masibo, September 27, 2025Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kaluma has argued that the People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader, Martha Karua’s 2027 presidential ambition is short-lived without the support of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Kaluma’s sentiments come shortly after PLP unveiled Karua as the political outfit’s presidential flag bearer in the quest to unseat the incumbent, President William Ruto, in PLP’s National Delegates Conference held on Friday, September 26, at Ufangamano House.
At the particular event that was attended by top political brass from the United Opposition, led by Wiper Party leader and former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, former Deputy President and DCP leader Rigathi Gachagau and former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, the leaders all together expressed faith in Martha Karua’s presidency.

However, after declaring her interest in going for the top seat, Kaluma has stated that the PLP chief is not going anywhere as she seeks to ascend to the presidency in 2027.
The legislator has instead challenged Karua to look for Raila Odinga, who, together as his running mate, lost the 2022 presidential election under the Azimio la Umoja ticket to William Ruto, who vied under the ticket of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

Both Martha Karua and Raila Odinga would later challenge Ruto’s victory at the Supreme Court before Chief Justice Martha Koome and other judges dismissed the case as ‘hot air’.
In another turn of events, Kaluma has asked Martha Karua and the Wiper chief Kalonzo Musyoka to look for Raila Odinga, who is deeply rooted in the broad-based government, as William Ruto’s 2027 presidential poll alignments take shape.
”You are going nowhere without Baba Raila Odinga! Search for Kalonzo and tell him the same,” Kaluma said on Saturday, September 27, 2025.

As Kaluma calls for Karua-Raila reunion, Kalonzo Musyoka has hinted at strengthening the working relationship between his political outfit and the Martha Karua-led People’s Liberation Party (PLP) ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Kalonzo promises
Speaking during the PLP’s National Delegates Conference (NDC) on Friday, September 26, 2025, as well, the former vice president said that Wiper and PLP will work together to ensure the current regime does not cling to the 2027 presidency for a second term.
”Purple is the colour! I am deeply honoured to attend my twin sister Martha Karua’s PLP’s special NDC today at Ufungamano House, Nairobi. Together with Rigathi Gachagua, Justin Muturi and Eugene Wamalwa. We shall rescue and liberate Kenya. We shall chart the path for a stronger and united Kenya,” Kalonzo said.
