Kaluma: Gachagua sought to be arrested at JKIA to resurrect his political career
Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has dismissed former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s recent political manoeuvres, saying his attempts to revive his career are futile.
Speaking after the return of Gachagua from the United States of America on Thursday, August 21, 2025, Kaluma accused the ousted DP of deliberately seeking arrest upon his touchdown at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport from the US in order to “resurrect his buried tribal and hateful political career.”
Taking to his X account on Friday, August 22, 2025, the legislator said that Gachagua, the Democracy for the Citizens Party Leader, was banking on sympathy and ethnic mobilisation to regain political relevance after his impeachment.
Kaluma added that Rigathi Gachagua, who has been vocal against the current regime, will not be given attention upon his homecoming.
“We are too smart for this,” Kaluma said. “We will ignore him and add more soil to his deepening political grave.”
Kaluma emphasised that the current broad-based government is focused on uniting Kenyans across all regions and ethnic lines, stressing that no single individual should exploit tribal politics for personal gain.
“The Broad-Based Government unites and includes all Kenyans as equal citizens,” he noted.

His remarks come at a time when political tensions are high, with Gachagua’s allies alleging that the government is targeting him for political reasons.
Meanwhile, President William Ruto’s Senior Advisor Prof. Makau Mutua has also poured cold water on the much-publicised return of Rigathi Gachagua, terming it a failed spectacle that fell short of the hype. Prof. Mutua has likened the event to a chaotic non-starter rather than the grand, historic moment Gachagua’s supporters had anticipated.
“A GRAND homecoming is supposed to be star-studded, exhilarating, historic, a political earthquake. Like Baba’s in 2020. Yesterday’s pained, chaotic affair was a DUD. An imbroglio. A complete flop. Methinks the man from Mathira needs to go back to America and plan a proper hero’s return,” Prof. Mutua took to his X account on Friday, August 22, 2025.
Gachagua, who had spent weeks in the US, was received by a section of his allies and supporters at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). However, the reception turned unruly amid chaos.
