Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Kaluma has dismissed claims of divisions within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Speaking on Monday, March 16, 2026, during an interview with a local radio station, Kaluma insisted that the party remains united and focused on consolidating its traditional support bases across the country.

He said there were no factions within ODM, rejecting talk of internal splits commonly referred to as “mrengos”.

Instead, he emphasised that the party was rallying its supporters through the Linda Ground rallies across the country.

“I want to say that we are united as ODM; there are no ‘mrengos’. You hear of Linda Ground. Linda Ground is a rallying call that the bases of the ODM party must remain with the ODM party, and the party must remain a distinct political formation,” Kaluma said.

Protecting ODM strongholds

According to the legislator, the initiative is aimed at protecting and strengthening the regions that have historically supported ODM, ensuring that the party maintains its political influence in those areas.

Kaluma explained that the strategy focuses on consolidating support in several regions considered traditional ODM strongholds, including North Eastern, the Coast region, the Maa areas, Rift Valley, Turkana, West Pokot, Western Kenya, Nyanza, and Nairobi.

“Those bases of the grounds we are seeking to protect are North Eastern, which includes the mid-triangle of Marsabit, Isiolo, Tana River, the Coast, the Maa, Rift Valley, Turkana, West Pokot, Western Kenya, Nyanza, and Nairobi. It is about how we protect, consolidate, and solidify the bases, which are traditional ODM bases,” he stated.

ODM divisions

The remarks come at a time when the ODM is embroiled in wrangles with its embattled Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who is leading a different faction of the party dubbed Linda Mwananchi.

Sifuna, alongside other ODM rebel leaders, including Siaya Governor James Orengo, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, his Saboti counterpart Caleb Amisi, Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, and Vihiga Senator, who doubles up as the Deputy Party Leader, Godfrey Osotsi, started the Linda Mwananchi movement after failing to agree to the broad-based government arrangement.

As the ODM party continues to hold Linda Ground rallies, the Sifuna-led faction has also been moving around holding the Linda Mwananchi rallies, with their next meeting expected in Mombasa after the end of Ramadan.

Just recently, the Sifuna faction launched its parallel report to counter the 10-point agenda report that had been unveiled by the broad-based government faction of the party led by interim party leader Oburu Odinga.
