Kalonzo slams govt over ID issuance to foreign nationals, says it poses security threats
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, May 11, 2026Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has accused the government of what he says is issuing national identification cards to foreign nationals ahead of the 2027 general election, warning that the move could expose the country to serious security risks.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Kameme TV on Monday, May 11, 2026, Kalonzo has said that there was a deliberate attempt by a set of leaders to allow foreigners from neighbouring countries to register as Kenyan citizens.
“As we head to the national elections in 2027, there is a section of leaders who want to bring foreign nationals from other countries,” Kalonzo said.

The ex-VP also said that he had been informed of a plot by officials under the Ministry of Interior who were illegally hawking the documents at the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.
“I have received intel that the Ministry of Interior, tasked with the issuance of national IDs, is now selling them at the border point of DRC and Zambia,” Kalonzo added.
Kalonzo said the ID cards issued to non-citizens could pose a threat to the country’s national security, particularly because there are extremist groups active in the region.
“We have extremist groups in neighbouring countries that pose security threats to our country,” he said.
Kalonzo on the Tseikuru attack
Wiper Patriotic Front party leader Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka has blamed President William Ruto and his administration after a deadly attack in Tseikuru, Mwingi North, Kitui County, left seven people dead, which posed a great inter-ethnic violence.
Kalonzo has said that following the attack, the warring communities have since been reconciled following negotiations between elders in the two communities and that peace has been restored.

He has warned that the issuance of IDs to foreign nationals could pose a great threat to the regions, calling on leaders to avoid the politicisation of the issuance of IDs
Kalonzo was responding to the tensions that escalated further on April 25, 2026, when seven people believed to be from the Kamba community were killed in an attack at the Kwa Kamari area in Tseikuru, according to a statement by the National Police Service.
“Yesterday, 25th April 2026, an attack on the Kwa Kamari area left seven people dead, all believed to be from the Kamba community,” the police noted.
