‘Its all in imagination’ – Kalonzo rubbishes fallout claims in Azimio says coalition is stronger than ever
Wiper party leader and Azimio la Umoja -One Kenya coalition co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka has refuted claims that the Raila Odinga-led coalition was falling apart.
While addressing the press after a Wiper National Executive Council meeting held at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, Kalonzo stressed that the opposition coalition was stronger than before.
He went on to state that the claims of a rift in the coalition are imaginations that should not be taken seriously since they are committed as a team.
The Wiper leader also confirmed that the Kanu party leader was still on board
“It’s all in people’s imagination because we are committed. There are differences in opinions here and there that cannot translate to a fallout or be taken as problems within the coalition, we are very determined more than ever before to forge a position as Azimio la Umoja – One Kenya and this morning I had a meeting with Gideon Moi…He is also solidly with us because when we were organising those demonstrations, Gideon was also represented by the secretary general bwana Wainaina,’ Kalonzo added.
Kalonzo’s remarks followed speculations alleging that the opposition coalition was undergoing cracks after the co-principals disagreed publicly on the endorsement of the National Dialogue Committe report.
The most recent development that triggered speculations was when Kalonzo and Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua differed after Karua and her Jubilee counterpart Jeremiah Kioni fronted a new political movement dubbed Kamwene Leadership Forum.
“It does not mean we are not in Azimio, if we weren’t we would say it without beating around the bush. You saw us speak as Azimio, today we are here speaking as Kamwene, tomorrow I will speak as Narc-Kenya, all these are spaces we occupy,” Karua stated.
In response, Kalonzo shot down the idea terming it a tribal outfit that was dead on arrival.
“I don’t want to pass judgment on that issue but have you heard of things like dead on arrival? This thing means individualism. It’s a terrible political philosophy. I would advise my friends to leave it and we stick together in Azimio,” Kalonzo told a local publication.
