Kalonzo praises Orengo, Sifuna over sustained criticism of Ruto’s govt

Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has hailed Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo and his Kisumu counterpart Anyang Nyong’o for their sustained criticism of President William Ruto’s administration.
Issuing a brief statement expressing his respect for the three, Kalonzo stated that it is high time everyone stands up for the truth.
“We must all stand up for the truth; it is the foundation on which our parties were established,” Kalonzo wrote on his official X account.
The trio has maintained its sustained criticism of Ruto’s policies, with the most recent critic being Nyong’o, who accused the president of sabotaging devolution.

In his statement shared on April 22, 2025, Nyong’o condemned the existence of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) and the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA),oting that they were ununnecessary and contrary to the spirit of devolution as dictated in the Constitution.
He continued by outlining the problems in healthcare, wondering why the national government was still in charge of road funding when counties have shown time and time again that they are better able to handle devolved responsibilities like healthcare.
“Counties manage health effectively and efficiently. The national government cannot even manage Kenyatta National Hospital, one of the few health facilities still under its control,” Nyong’o said.
Orengo, on the other hand, recently chastised Ruto’s administration, maintaining his stance on the broad-based government. The vocal county chief strongly affirmed that he will not join what he described as a praise-singing bandwagon for the Kenya Kwanza administration.

The governor, who was speaking at a funeral service in Siaya on April 12, 2025, maintained his stance on speaking truth, encouraging Kenyans to fight for their rights.
“I cannot be a praise-singer. We fought for a democratic constitution where people should speak freely. I urge Kenyans to tell their leaders the truth. This country will go to the dogs again if the kind of language we hear continues.
“If anything is brought to Siaya County, it will be as a matter of right, not as a favour. There is a need to fight for your rights if we are to have a better country,” he ssaid.
Sifuna has also shared similar ssentiments, insisting that the ODM party must maintain its independence. He also emphasised the significance of constructive criticism of the government for efficient service delivery rather than blind allegiance.
The criticism from the three has attracted clapbacks from a section of leaders allied to the Kenya Kwanza administration, with a section of leaders accusing them of undermining the broad-based government.
