Kalonzo: Mt Kenya has enough votes to determine presidential results
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, May 11, 2026Wiper Patriotic Front leader Kalonzo Musyoka has said that the Mount Kenya region holds significant influence in determining the outcome of presidential elections due to its large voting population, and that it has the greatest influence in deciding the presidential results.
Speaking in a morning interview with Kameme TV on Monday, May 11, 2026, Kalonzo has said that the size of election blocs has a significant role in influencing the outcomes of elections, noting that the larger Mt Kenya region is still one of the most decisive areas in the country.
“Matokeo ya uchaguzi yanategemea idadi ya wapiga kura. Nani hajui kwamba jamii ya Mlima Kenya ni wengi? Inatosha kumweka mtu kuwa Rais,” Kalonzo said.

Loosely translated as “The election results depend on the number of voters. Who doesn’t know that the Mount Kenya region has the highest population of voters? That is enough to make one a president.”
The former vice president has proposed that if any candidate has any intention of becoming president, he or she should pay attention to the Mt Kenya vote because of the numerical power and influence the vote has in the country’s political arena.

The comments by Kalonzo Musyoka are set against the backdrop of political realignment dynamics as leaders strategically shape and establish regional alliances ahead of the upcoming 2027 general election.

The remarks coincide with the ongoing political realignment efforts ahead of the 2027 General Election, as leaders work hard to strengthen regional support bases and forge strategic alliances.
In recent months, the Wiper leader has established himself as one of the opposition leaders and presidential hopefuls in the upcoming general elections, making close allies with the former deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua, and has been trying to entice leaders from various regions to join his cause in an attempt to widen his political reach before the next elections.
