Kalonzo holds secret talks with Charity Ngilu ahead of 2027
By Mabonga Makhanu, April 8, 2026Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has held talks with former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu at the SKM Command Centre.
In photos shared on his social media pages on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, the Wiper leader did not reveal details of the meeting and remained economical with his words.
This comes at a time when Kalonzo Musyoka, who was recently installed as the Azimio la Umoja coalition leader, has opened up about plans to revamp the political outfit, of which Ngilu’s National Rainbow Coalition party is an integral member, and use it for the 2027 elections.

He stated that he will reorganise the outfit and convince his colleagues within the United Opposition to join it and use it as their 2027 vehicle, possibly even changing the name of the coalition. He defended the move, saying there is no need to form a new coalition when one already exists.
“We are looking at that, and I advise my colleagues that we already have a vehicle; let’s use it, perhaps changing the name. I hear the word ‘Ukombozi’; it’s time to liberate this country,” he said.
“I’m actually the successor to my friend Raila as the party leader of Azimio La Umoja. So we are working around that to really see, for example, whether my other colleagues can join, and perhaps because, rather than start registration of a new coalition, we have one in existence.”

However, this position has been opposed by PLP leader Martha Karua, who stated that she has no business with the defunct Azimio, describing it as a “dead ship”.
Ngilu’s political moves
Charity Ngilu has maintained a low profile since Azimio’s loss in 2022. She has rarely been spotted in public, although in 2025 she was seen in a similar meeting with Jubilee deputy party leader Fred Matiang’i at his Karen residence, alongside Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba.
She has not openly declared her intentions for the next general election—whether she will defend her Kitui seat, which she ceded in 2022 to focus on national politics, or continue playing a role in national politics as she did.
