Kalonzo explains why Ruto should not be offended by ‘wantam’ chants
By Luke Oluoch, October 4, 2025Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has defended the ‘wantam’ chants directed at President William Ruto’s regime, terming them as a normal occurrence in African nations.
Speaking on Saturday, October 4, 2025, the former VP asserted that the chants were borne not out of ill- will but a desire to see the country on the path of reforms.
Dont be offended
“When we say one term, Ruto should not be offended. Just the other day, the people of Malawi voted our Lazarus Chakwera. It is now like a tradition in Africa for failed leaders to be sent home. If leaders fail, the citizens have respectfully and democratically told him to go home by voting him out, ” he said.
Kalonzo referenced Malai and Bostswana whose presidents were voted out after servving a single term as case in point.
“Both in Botswana and Malawi, we have seen leaders serve for one term, and the leaders have been voted out. Therefore, we have no ill motives for our country when we say one term,” he said.
His remarks come after he maintained his onslaught on the Kenya Kwanza government.
The former VP emphasised that the nation must take the step to reverse the wrongs done by the Ruto administration by voting them out of power.
“For the sake of this nation, let us unite and vote out this government. Let us make it a one-term so that everybody is delivered from this mess. Many things are not right. The economy, healthcare, and now the wanton corruption in the country,” he declared.

Kalonzo also slammed Ruto over his policies to privatise government-owned corporations and other state-owned corporations he termed “strategic assets”
He joked that the president had moved from selling chicken to selling an entire airport.
“We have to call out bad policies. Ruto has now seeking to privatise a national strategic infrastucural project in Kenya Pipeline which we will resist,” he stated.
“We objected to his selling the airport. I said that he had made a big step on a lighter note. He used to call himself a hustler while selling chicken. Now the chicken seller has moved to selling at an entire airport,” he stated
