Kalonzo declares war on Ruto’s Kamba allies

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has launched a direct political offensive against Kamba leaders allied to President William Ruto, declaring that their support for the Kenya Kwanza administration amounts to what he described as betrayal of the Kamba community.
Speaking at a high-profile rally in Machakos on Friday, May 30, 2025, Kalonzo intensified his campaign for the 2027 presidential election by mobilising his base and challenging rivals within his ethnic constituency.
“Those who have chosen to walk with Ruto have sold out the Kamba people. This betrayal will not go unchallenged. We will reclaim our dignity and our rightful place in this nation,” he said.
“Education is sinking and yet they cannot voice about it. They are here telling us how things are working, what is working when almost everything is wrong.”
His remarks were a direct reference to Kamba leaders who have joined or supported President Ruto’s administration, a move Kalonzo views as a political miscalculation that undermines the community’s interests.
The rally, which also featured leaders from the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) and the Democratic Action Party-Kenya (DAP-K), marked a significant show of opposition unity ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Buckling for 2027
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa joined Kalonzo in Machakos, signalling a consolidated front against the ruling Kenya Kwanza coalition.

Kalonzo’s speech focused on several key issues, including the alleged betrayal by Kamba leaders who have aligned with Ruto, the economic challenges facing the country, and the need for a united opposition to challenge the current administration.
He also addressed the recent merger of the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) with the Kenya National Trading Corporation, stating:
“The merging of NCPB is a clear disregard of the constitutional imperative to devolve agriculture.”
The honcho said that the government is intentionally sabotaging devolution yet Ruto’s staunch allies from Ukambani have not raised concerns.
“This is a time of revolution. We do not want cowards. I have preserved knowing one day people will join me to fight injustices in Kenya. The time is now for Kenya to be free forever.”
Kalonzo insisted that the rally in Machakos is part of a broader strategy and his allies to strengthen their political base in the Kamba and other region and challenge the dominance of Ruto’s allies in the area.
“We cannot be beggars in our country yet we pay too much taxes without any tangible service delivery. Once we assume office our first executive order will be to abolish Housing Levy and other punitive laws,” Kalonzo declared.
