United Opposition calls on Kenyans to defend national assets and multiparty democracy

Wiper Patriotic Front Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka has issued the strongest warnings, urging Kenyans to rise and defend the country’s national assets, sovereignty and democratic space, which he says are facing unprecedented threats under President William Ruto’s administration.

In a lengthy Jamhuri Day address issued at DAP Kenya, Chui House, Nairobi Headquarters on Thursday, December 11, 2025, on behalf of the United Opposition, Kalonzo said the country’s independence was won through sacrifice and must not be undermined by what he described as a new wave of internal erosion of national institutions and public resources.

In his statement, Kalonzo said Kenyans must collectively protect the country’s key assets from what he termed as reckless management and opaque decision-making.

“We call on every citizen, every institution, every civil society organisation, and every community to rise. Protect our pipelines, our airports, our companies, and our financial institutions. Demand accountability. Defend our sovereignty. Let no one mistake silence for consent. We must defend our assets, like the gold in Migori and Kakamega that are under invasion, restore dignity, and reclaim the Republic,” he said.

Kalonzo also turned his attention to the integrity of Kenya’s elections, arguing that the country’s multiparty democracy was under direct attack following the disputed November 27 by-elections.

“More significantly, we must defend our multiparty democracy that has been under existential threat by this rogue regime,” he said

He claimed the polls were shambolic and faulted IEBC chair Erastus Etherkon for declaring them free and fair despite criticism from independent observers.

“What we witnessed was that the chairman of the IEBC, Erastus Ethekon, shockingly purported that they were free and fair; they were ones that the majority of election observers stated were heavily rigged in favour of state-sponsored candidates,” Kalonzo added.

He went on to name individuals he believes should face immediate investigation, including MPs, former officials and presidential aides.

“We demand immediate action against the perpetrators of these electoral offences against whom there is glaring evidence,” he said.

Kalonzo also criticised the government’s handling of the ongoing drought, accusing it of using relief food to bribe voters instead of aiding affected families.

“Kenya is also facing a serious drought, yet this regime chose to use relief food and non-food items to bribe voters,” he stated.

The opposition leader reiterated the United Opposition’s pledge that national assets will never be sold without public consent and vowed resistance against what he described as practices that undermine sovereignty.

“Kenya shall not be sold. Kenya shall not be auctioned. Kenya shall not be recolonised, not by outsiders, not by insiders, not by anyone,” he declared.

Kalonzo concluded by calling on Kenyans to honour the spirit of independence by defending the Constitution and safeguarding the country’s future.
