Kajiado Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho declares 2027 gubernatorial bid

By , February 28, 2026

Deputy Governor Martin Moshisho Martine has formally declared his intention to be a candidate in the Kajiado governorship in 2027 with a view to replacing Governor Joseph Ole Lenku, who is in his second term in office.

Moshisho announced this on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at a thanksgiving ceremony for Principal Secretary Judith Pareno at the Mashuru area in Kajiado County, who shared last words from the late Raila Odinga. The leaders and residents of the entire county attended the event, where President William Ruto was the main guest.

Addressing the people, Moshisho used the platform as a platform to announce his bid for the county boss position.

“I hear people say someone else is the broad-based governor in Kajiado. I want to say that the broad-based governor in Kajiado is Joseph Ole Lenku at the moment, and after that, I will be the next ODM governor in Kajiado in 2017,” Moshisho declared.

He also stressed the need to combine the efforts of the county leadership with the residents in availing services and promoting development in all wards. The Thanksgiving event provided a good avenue through which Moshisho could officially announce his gubernatorial intentions under the ODM party. His announcement will be the starting point of early positioning in the county before the 2027 election cycle.

His announcement is during one of the periods when the citizens of this county are attentively tracking political affiliations and campaign dynamics. The governor’s contention for Kajiado 2027 is projected to be very competitive.

Moshisho disputes Katoo as the favourite candidate

Moshisho will have to contest with State House Comptroller Katoo Ole Metito, who has already announced his intentions to take the position. Moshisho has also refuted rumours that Katoo is the candidate of choice under the broad-based government, saying that the race will be open and decided by the people and that he will be the ODM governor after the incumbent Joseph Ole Lenku.

It is expected that a heated race will follow as more candidates are expected to join the two candidates in the quest for the top seat in the region. As bets are high and both leaders have substantial grassroots support.
