Kabando wa Kabando: Why I turned down Ruto’s invite to State House
Former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando has revealed the intricate details surrounding his decision to snub an invitation from President William Ruto.
In a statement on Sunday, September 14, 2025, Kabando indicated that cozying up to Ruto would have emboldened him to continue ruling in the manner that he does.
“President Ruto recently directly invited me to State House. All my confidantes advised I honour, to show courtesy, and perhaps benefit financially or a state job. Soul-searched in 5 days countdown, then politely declined offered him my sincere thoughts about what he needs to do,” Kabando noted.
“Meeting Ruto privately would have denied me any moral authority to criticise his governance tragedies. I want to be a free spirit to pronounce public interests unhindered, uncompromised. Chicanery is the bane of Kenya’s politics. Those trooping to the State House are enabling Ruto.”
Enablers of Ruto
Kabando equally stated that leaders who honour State House invitations are a sell-out to the liberation of the country and a mockery to the past freedom fighters.

“Receiving moneybags of Ruto’s handouts is sanitising proceeds of crime. People shouldn’t accept money stolen from public. If we all refuse to join the gravy train, our anger and fights against looting are justified. Imagine if Nobel Laureate Maathai accepted Moi’s cash,” Kabando posed.
“The bane of Kenya’s public leadership is integrity deficiency. Very few in opposition ranks are without subterranean Ruto links. Dishonesty galore. Saving grace: the present calm in GenZs change wave only before a triumphant storm; accountability charter shall inevitably prevail.”

Opposition unity
“Ruto may be smarter than most of his political peers and those propelled by greed, but he is definitely a minion in comparison to the power in the hands of patriotic forces. No amount of megalomania or deception will rescue kakistocracy. For our motherland, time is the best ally.”
Kabando equally urged the United Opposition to stay undivided if their plans to make Ruto a one-term president are genuine.

“William Samoei Ruto is wholly incompatible with a cohesive, democratic Kenya. Crude WSR will buy gluttonous politicians and envelope gullible delegations. He has blackmailed graft merchants, yet Ruto’s date with ‘change hurricane’ is inked. Change is coming to Kenya,” he stated.
“For a deviously crafty Kasongo to fall, all patriots must sacrifice 100%, must be selfless, and must be utmostly bold. #OppositionUnityOfPurpose #1Candidate #Round1Win focus is obligatory. To rescue our dear motherland, Kenya’s existential threat, irredeemably crooked”
