Kabando Wa Kabando laughs off Ruto’s corrupt Parliament accusations

Former Mukurweini Member of Parliament Kabando Kabando has laughed off President William Ruto’s accusations that the Parliament is a corrupt institution.

On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, President Ruto issued a stern warning to parliamentary committees engaging in corrupt practices, saying it can no longer be “business as usual” in the fight against graft. The Head of State expressed his dismay over claims that certain committees demand bribes, payments to write reports, or turn a blind eye to irregularities in both county and national governments.

“Mr Speaker, it can’t continue to be business as usual. It is not possible that committees of Parliament demand to be bribed, demand to be paid for them to write reports or look the other way for what is happening in either the county or national government,” Ruto said after officially opening a devolution conference in Homa Bay County.

His remarks come amid growing public concern over accountability within oversight bodies, which are constitutionally mandated to safeguard public resources. The President emphasised that such conduct undermines governance and erodes public trust, calling for decisive action to restore integrity in parliamentary processes.

However, former legislator Kabando Wa Kabando launched an attack on President Ruto, describing him as the mastermind of graft. Wa Kabando added that it is laughable for Ruto to accuse the National Assembly of corruption while he is also a player in the particular game.

Wa Kabando reaction

”Where President Ruto accused MPs of being corrupt, he spoke face-to-face to members of the Senate, National Assembly & MCAs – even Governors – who he has just recently bribed, multiple times. Chief briber accusing those he has bribed is comic!” Wa Kabando took to his X account on Wednesday night, August 13, 2025.

At the same time, lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi reacted to the corruption claims against the Parliament by President William Ruto. ‎”The courts are corrupt. Parliament is corrupt. Governors are stealing like MAD! Civil service is corrupt. Nobody is prosecuted and jailed. The 4-dollar billionaires are still free! Where do Kenyans take refuge and go? Afghanistan?” Ahmednasir reacted.

This development comes amid the country grappling with economic challenges and political intolerance among the ruling class.
