Justina Wamae announces plan to contest in 2027

Former Roots Party deputy presidential candidate Justina Wamae has announced plans to contest for an elective seat in 2027 while insisting that she will not be drawn into the country’s increasingly polarised political camps, dismissing the ‘wantam’ and ‘tutam’ alignments as retrogressive.

In a statement shared on her X on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Wamae said Kenya’s politics must rise above empty alignments and instead focus on policies that address real issues.

“It’s 2025, the issue of telling non-aligned politicians like myself to align with either wantam or tutam shenanigans is retrogressive,” she stated.

Focus on ballot and policies

Wamae announced her intention to contest in the 2027 elections, anchoring her campaign on economic transformation and practical solutions for citizens. “Siasa ni Soko Huru, I will be in the ballot (if granted good health and long life) to sell policy and legislative proposals. After all, let the people decide!” she affirmed.

She went further to provide what she termed a “Cost-Benefit Analysis” of the two camps that dominate current political debates.

According to Wamae, the tutam side offers little hope for Kenyans. “What is ‘good’ in tutam? Lies, kutenga, corruption, failures, police brutality, unemployment, hopelessness, divisive politics, Ksh 64 empowerment nonsense, lack of vision and political goodwill to make Kenya a Singapore,” she argued.

Turning to the wantam camp, Wamae was equally critical, accusing it of dwelling on bitterness and tribal politics rather than fresh solutions. “What is ‘good’ in wantam? Calling others tukunas, kunda gutunes, bitterness, tribalism, and the lack of clarity to take Kenya BACK to where President Kibaki left it (LACK of imagination to come up with innovative and progressive policy and legislative proposals if you ask me),” she said.

Wamae insisted that both camps lacked the imagination and ability to steer Kenya toward progress. “In short, none of the aforementioned have the ability, capacity and will to take Kenya forward. All those things they stand for zinakuhusu aje kama MKenya?” she posed.

Her alternative vision

She declared that her agenda would be different, one rooted in building sustainable economic structures for the people. “I’m on the side of Economic Democracy, Issue and solution-based politics, Ordering the disorder, Creating wealth for the nation of Kenya and her citizens, ndio inatuhusu kama WaKenya,” she said.

Wamae’s declaration sets the stage for her 2027 run, positioning herself as a third-force candidate outside Kenya’s dominant camps, with her focus firmly on economic democracy and issue-based politics.
