Today, National assembly speaker Justin Muturi took his presidential bid campaign to Kajiado County, where he sought the Maasai community’s support.

A section of Maasai elders of the the Iseuri age group (between 70 and 80 years) endorsed his bid in a traditional ceremony that included traditional prayer, being dressed in Maasai regalia and being handed a Maa leadership stick and cab.

In the event which took place at Nandoenderit village, Isinya Kajiado County, the elders said they are now focused on making independent decisions in electing leaders, saying political party euphoria is a thing of the past. They are ready to embrace fresh leadership.

The elders said Muturi’s integrity is undisputed, and he has no corruption record making him worth their support.

“As Maasai elders today, we are committed to leading our people to chant and walk a different political path. We have embraced and endorsed speaker Muturi’s presidential bid. Massive corruption among our leaders has been a thorn in the flesh that has adversely affected our community, subjecting us to abject poverty. We believe that change in the country needs a corruption-free leader,” one of the elders, Moses Parantai said.

In a colorful ceremony characterized by pomp, color, songs,, and dance, the Maa community elders also took the opportunity to call on Muturi to address the issue of historical land injustice that scontinues escalating land conflict among pastoralist communities.

“The rampant land conflict in our county is largely fuelled by our corrupt elected leaders. When you ascend to power, we appeal to you to help us resolve the Kibiko communal land conflict that has dragged in court for years,” Parantai added.

The elders pledged to rally Kajiado youth to detest from blindly supporting leaders with a tainted past.

” We want to urge youths not to be swayed by cheap propaganda and unrealistic promises by politicians. Some political factions are only a click of crooks who have ganged up to mislead the country and thriving in sideshows and playing cheap biased politics, “said Daniel Ole Noontasati.
