‘Just resign and leave’ – Elachi says after CS Muturi snubbed cabinet meeting

By , January 22, 2025

Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi has urged Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi to resign and leave office if their relationship with President William Ruto has become irreparable.

Speaking during a local TV show on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, Elachi said that Muturi is a seasoned politician and leader and that he should leave office to avoid his name being dragged into the press.

“Just resign and leave; you have kept your name and do not allow your name to be dragged,” Elachi said.

Muturi skipped the first cabinet meeting of the year which was held at the Kakamega State Lodge during Ruto’s tour of Western Kenya.

Speculation

His absence has fueled speculation in political circles especially after Muturi called a press conference on Sunday, January 12, 2025, and chided the government over abduction cases in the country.

Following Muturi’s revelations of the intrigues behind his son Leslie’s disappearance, he has been on a collision path with several government loyalists who have called for his resignation.

On January 16, 2025, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed urged Muturi to table his resignation for going against the state’s position on abductions.

“Don’t bring commotion; don’t bring unnecessary fires in government. Be man enough and say, ‘this is enough now; I don’t think what is happening now is what I came to do; for that reason, I want to leave,” Junet said.

Not surprised

However, Naivasha MP Jayne Kihara stated that it was normal for leaders to snub events which they are uninvited for.

“I am not surprised by this government because I have seen it when we are going to Parliamentary Group (PG) meetings. If the president is unhappy with you, you don’t get communication. So, if you don’t get communication, you just skip because then, you don’t have no use there,” Kihara said.

“The former speaker is mature and he knows why he is not resigning. I am sure he has his own reasons. We don’t have to force him to resign.”

Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku, however, noted that the differences between Ruto and Muturi could only be resolved at their level as both of them are principals in the Kenya-Kwanza government.

“These are two principals who may be having some differences and those differences can only be solved at their level,” Ruku said.

“Muturi is a high-ranking CS and at his age, there are issues he cannot be dragged into. This is not just a gentleman who can wake up and say anything for the sake of saying it.”
