Junet: No party beats ODM in exposing saboteurs

By , February 12, 2026

National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed has declared that no political party in Kenya rivals the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) in identifying and neutralising internal saboteurs, as the party steps up nationwide mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during ODM popularisation tours in Lamu and Tana River counties on Thursday, 12, 2026, the Suna East MP warned against insidious forces attempting to control the party through infiltrators.

Junet urged all party members to remain vigilant and actively participate in keeping the party united, engaged, and ready for the upcoming 2027 general elections. He stressed that safeguarding ODM’s structures and maintaining its momentum was the responsibility of every supporter.

“During today’s engagements, I took the opportunity to remind those insidious forces attempting to micromanage the ODM Party through their rented moles to forget it. No party in Kenya beats ODM in exposing and derailing internal saboteurs and sellouts. I urge all party faithful to stay vigilant and join us in keeping our party intact, active and Ready,” Junet wrote on X.

The tours attracted large crowds dressed in the party’s signature orange colours, with leaders including Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir joining Junet in a vibrant procession, which included a symbolic donkey ride through Lamu streets.

Defending ODM amid criticism

Junet’s remarks come amid criticism suggesting that ODM is weakened following the removal of Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna as Secretary General and the party’s exit from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition.

Dismissing claims that the party is “dead,” Junet told supporters in Lamu: “Wale watu ambao waneneza uvumi kila saa ati chama imekufa hiyo wamesema ya kutosha. ODM haiwezi kufa ndo inaanza sasa. ODM ni chama ambaye inawafuasi wengi katika nchi hii ya Kenya, ni chama ya wananchi.”

He insisted that ODM remains people-centred and resilient, emphasising that the party’s support base across the country is large and loyal, even as internal and external observers speculate on its future direction.

The remarks follow an ODM National Executive Committee meeting in Mombasa on February 11, during which the party resolved to formally withdraw from Azimio, citing “sustained breaches” of the coalition agreement by some partners.
