Junet: Mombasa function will mark ODM’s rebirth ahead of 2027 polls
By Luke Oluoch, September 13, 2025The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) officials have tipped the upcoming party’s 20th anniversary celebrations to usher in a fresh start for the party.
Speaking in Mombasa County on Saturday, September 13, 2025, Suna East MP Junet Mohammed asserted that the auspicious occasion will signal a rebirth of the veteran political party in the 2027 polls.
“This event is very important for our party. It reminds us where we came from, where we are and where we want to go. It is a rebirth of our party for now and in preparations for the 2027 elections,” he stated.

Junet also spoke on the relevance of hosting the event in Mombasa, referencing the city’s association with the party.
“As you are aware, this county(Mombasa) is an ODM county, since the county was formed. It is on that basis that he stated he will be hosting us here on the date,” he stated.
Sifuna’s sentiments
On his part, Edwin Sifuna stressed that the function will be marked by huge celebrations, while extending invitations for all people to join in.
The Nairobi Senator’s remarks came moments after he joined the party’s top leadership in Mombasa earlier on the same day.
Sifuna, who has been at loggerheads with a section of the party officials for criticism directed at President William Ruto and his association with the “Kenya Moja’ brigade, joined Junet Mohammed, Glady Wanga and Abdulswamad Nassir in assessing the levels of preparedness ahead of the functions.
The Nairobi senator has, however, continued to carry his party functions despite mounting calls for his resignation from a section of party officials clamouring for his resignation.
Attack on Ruto
In one of his recent rebukes of the Kenya Kwanza administration, he accused the president of making deceptive promises to voters during the last election.
“William Ruto ile kitu ulifanya ukadanganya wakenya sisi kama Kenya Moja tuko tayari kufanya, ukiingia kwa misa unanipata mimi nishapiga magoti hapo, akitoka church mi niko na bishop, wakiempower, tuna empower, mpaka ile siku tutaelewana, mtu asiwadanganye na mambo ya manifestos,” he added.
The Raila Odinga-led party on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, said it will be celebrating two decades of what it calls “resilience, sacrifice, and commitment to democracy.
