Junet Mohamed calls on ODM supporters to strengthen party structures nationwide
By Cy Muganda, January 18, 2026National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed has urged Orange Democratic Movement supporters to play their rightful duty in protecting, defending, and strengthening the party across the country.
In a statement posted on his official X account on Sunday, January 18, 2026, the Suna East MP emphasised the need to build ODM as an institution capable of sustaining relevance, influence, and electoral competitiveness across Kenya.
“I urge all supporters to play their rightful duty in protecting, defending and strengthening our party and movement. Tuko Tayari – Linda Ground!” Junet stated.
Pro-people movement
Junet disclosed that he had joined Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka Wangaya in Khwisero, Kakamega County, at an event aimed at reinforcing ODM’s presence and organisational capacity in Wangaya’s constituency.
“Earlier joined Khwisero MP Hon. Christopher Aseka Wangaya to strengthen ODM in his constituency,” he said.

The Minority Leader described ODM as a pro-people mass movement with a historic agenda to deepen democracy and development in Kenya.
“Ours is pro-people mass movement with a historic agenda to deepen democracy and development in Kenya,” Junet stated.
Junet emphasised that the party’s focus is on building ODM as an institution capable of maintaining its political significance beyond individual leaders.
“Together, we continue to build ODM as an institution capable of sustaining relevance, influence, and electoral competitiveness across Kenya,” he said.
ODM-UDA coalition
His remarks come hours after he defended ODM’s decision to pursue a broad-based alliance, dismissing calls for street protests and insisting the party must operate within the law.
Speaking earlier in the day, Junet accused ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and other critics of undermining the party’s efforts to gain political power by opposing talks with rival parties.
“Many want us to take to the streets, to fight. When they see ODM approaching government, they get agitated. I want to say this: ODM is a disciplined party,” he said.
Junet confirmed that the party’s central committee had resolved to open discussions with other political formations, beginning with President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
“We want ODM in government. We want to unite with other parties to form the 2027 government,” he said.
