Jubilee party is calling for the establishment of the offices of the runner-up in a presidential election and the running mate in the National Assembly and Senate respectively.
Jubilee, in a memorandum handed to the National Dialogue Committee (NADC) sitting at the Bomas of Kenya, Nairobi County, said that the presidential candidate will sit as the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly while his running mate will sit in the Senate in the same capacity.
“We want to have a dignified position of opposition in our politics. Instead of opposition going to the streets to air their grievances, we must be able to accommodate them in Parliament, “ Jubilee interim Secretary General Kanini Kega said.
Jubilee also called for the parties’ independence to break away from a coalition after an election process to curb exploitation, especially during the sharing of political slots in Parliament.
“When political parties go to an election the decision they make after an election must be respected. You cannot continue staying in a coalition where you feel you are being mistreated. Political party allocation of slots in Parliament. People should be allowed to set and chat the way forward,” interim party chairperson Sabina Chege said.
Chege who maintained that Jubilee is independent and is not currently affiliated with any coalition either the ruling Kenya Kwanza or Azimio La Umoja coalition said that the issue of two-third gender rule should not only be accomplished in the legislature but also in the executive.
Additionally, she called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to compel political parties to establish proper mechanisms that allow more women to vie for elective seats.
On the issue of the cost of living which is on the agenda of the NADCO, Chege noted that the various measures that President William Ruto rolled out have not been successful in addressing inflation.
Part of the solution, the nominated MP said, is to consolidate all social protection government programmes into one programme to ensure that the indigents entitled to various programmes get funds from a single point.
