Jubilee endorses Matiang’i as party’s flagbearer in 2027 polls

The Jubilee Party has chosen former Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Fred Matiang’i as its official flagbearer in the 2027 elections.
Speaking during a leadership meeting in Narok on Saturday, January 25, 2025, the party’s Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni noted that Matiang’i was the suitable candidate to unseat President William Ruto in the presidential election.
While expressing confidence that the former CS would easily defeat Ruto, Kioni urged supporters to register on time to vote.
“We as the Jubilee Party, we have our own candidate, Matiang’i. aende wachuane na wale wengine tuhakikishe Kasongo ameenda nyumbani asubuhi na mapema. For that to happen, lazima muanze kufanya registration, musikize maneno kwa watu na hatutaki vita,” Kioni said.
“If we all agree to come together and vote, Ruto will not win even if he appoints Kimani Ichung’wah or Kamket as IEBC Chairperson. Lazima tukubaliane kama wakenya kwamba William Ruto na watu wake wote are very wrong people for Kenya,” he said.
Gusii community backs Matiang’i
Kioni’s remarks come a day after Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka announced that the Gusii region will field Matiangi as their presidential candidate.
Defending the decision, Senator Onyonka noted that the region had been abandoned under successive regimes and that the move would ensure one of their own gets the top seat and benefit the community.
“As the Gusii community, we have decided our candidate in the 2027 elections is Fred Matiang’i, and we won’t back down. We have decided that if you have a dysfunctional country and institutions are not sharing the cake equitably then you must look for alternatives and force those in power to share the resources equitably, and one of the approaches is setting our own political parties,” he said.
The senator also expressed optimism that the former CS would easily win the polls, if well supported.
“We know Matiang’i will win, but he can’t alone. We are going to talk to everybody. We will talk to Gachagua, Uhuru, Kalonzo Musyoka and even Raila Odinga, and we will tell them it is now our time because where we are, the country must also look for small clans, we also need an opportunity to show what we can do,” he added.
