Jimi Wanjigi opens Safina Party office in Siaya amid ODM zoning jitters

By , April 18, 2026

Safina Party leader Jimi Wanjigi has opened the party’s office in Siaya amid zoning and disquiet in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ahead of the 2027 polls.

He presided over the launch on Saturday, April 18, 2026, as part of a double opening that also included the Kisumu County office. The Siaya office sits along the Ng’iya–Siaya Road, just before Barding Junction. The Kisumu office is in the Buoye area.

Wanjigi made his position clear in a post on X later that day. He stressed that the new office does not serve as decoration.

“This is not an office for show. It is a working centre, a place where we organise, listen, and build with the people,” he wrote.

He added: “We are coming strong. And we are coming with one clear agenda: economic liberation. The people of Siaya must be part of this journey.”

Wanjigi continued: “As we begin our regional integration across Nyanza, our focus is to engage, to educate, and to build a movement grounded in the real issues affecting our people, especially the economy.”

Meru launch planned next

This expansion follows a clear pattern. On April 9, 2026, Wanjigi confirmed plans to open an office in Meru on April 26 and 27, 2026.

“On 26th–27th April, I am launching the Safina Meru office. My footprint in Meru is firmly on track, and nothing will stop this moment. I am running for president.”

The office openings happen while voter registration continues nationwide for the 2027 general elections. Wanjigi recently criticised certain positions taken by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, but he keeps his main focus on fixing the economy.

Party officials describe the new offices as permanent bases for direct engagement with residents. They want these centres to address everyday economic problems instead of acting only as campaign stops.

The opening of the office in an area historically considered to be an ODM stronghold adds a fresh angle to the 2027 polls. A section of ODM leaders is pushing for a zoning policy in their negotiations with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), even as small parties continue to establish their footprints.

Nonetheless, ODM Party Leader Oburu Odinga led Orange members in demanding respect from UDA and, at the same time, clarified that the 2027 coalition talks have not started after reports emerged that they had been suspended.
