President Uhuru Kenyatta has said he is not afraid of touring the Mt.kenya region as it is being purported that the ground could be hostile to him.

The president said the region is his stronghold and his backyard and he is not afraid of coming here to give his political opinion, adding that he has the right to give his opinion.

“Those who think I am afraid of coming here to the campaign should wait to see me there because I will be speaking my mind and I have the right to do so,” he said.

Speaking in AIPCA Gakarara church in Kandara where he graced the celebration of Holy Oil, Uhuru said he has played an integral role in uniting the church leaders who have been at war for years adding that he shall do the same for the country.

“The same journey I have walked with this church is the same way I will walk with this country because my only wish is to have united people,” he remarked.

“If we are to fight for anything, it should be for the peace and unity of the nation to fulfil the dream of our forefathers,” he said.

He urged leaders to avoid playing dirty politics by mudslinging and attacking each other in public saying this is setting a bad precedence

The president said he shall strive to ensure the country is united, accusing a section of leaders of making deliberate efforts to divide the people.

“We are here to stay, this is our land and nobody is moving out so we must learn to live together as one,” he said.

“We should also learn to forgive each other so that we can move forward as a country” he added.

The president also defended his handshake with ODM leader Raila Odinga saying the move was aimed at bringing peace and unity to the country.

“The handshake was to bring unity and healing not destruction and we have enjoyed a peaceful coexistence for those years” he added.
