‘If I vie for the presidency, I can defeat Ruto’ – Babu Owino
Embakasi East Member of Parliament Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino now claims he would beat Deputy President William Ruto if he runs for the presidency in the 2022 general elections.
Owino who had been ranked among potential presidential contenders after 2022 by a local pollster did not present any statistics but claimed Ruto can’t beat him in an election.
Babu who is a fierce critic of the DP however insisted that ODM leader Raila Odinga will be the eventual winner in the upcoming polls.
“If I vie for the presidency, I can defeat Ruto. Raila is way ahead of him,” he wrote.
Owino’s sentiments come a day after opinion polls firm Infotrak placed Raila ahead of DP Ruto in its latest survey dubbed The Infotrak Voice of the People Poll.
In the survey conducted between September 17 and December 21, Infotrak placed Raila ahead of the pack with an approval rating of 33%, followed by Ruto at 32% and ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi at a distant third with a paltry score of 1%.
The poll also indicated that 21% of Kenyans are still undecided even as the 2022 elections draw near.
The survey showed how Raila’s public approval rating grew from 30% in 2020 to 33% by December 2021.
According to the survey, Ruto’s influence has declined from 44% in 2020 to 32% in 2021.
