Ida Odinga has made a moving appeal to a delegation of the late Raila Odinga’s supporters from the 2007 elections.

Speaking to the group dubbed the Young Turks who supported Raila Odinga’s bid on Saturday, October 25, 2025, Ida emphasised the importance of maintaining unity in all their endeavours despite them belonging to diverse political affiliations.

The widow of the former Premier made the remarks to the delegation when they paid a courtesy call to the grieving family at Opoda Farm in Bondo.

Stick together

“As young Kenyans, I know you are saying you are not young: if you stick together and do your things together. You may belong to different political affiliations or positions, but your first Kenyans and the sky is the limit if you stick together,” she said.

The contingent was led by Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and Ted Kwaka Omollo alias Big Ted, the Kenyan Consul General based in Los Angeles, California since 2022

According to Sudi, the group consists of over 30 members of the Youths for Raila 2007 group.

Others included Samuel Mburu, Nakuru County first gentleman, Ken Obura, Bosco Gichana, Ali Noor, Carol Njeri, Hillary Alila, and Silas Jakakimba, among others.

During the event, Sudi revealed that he was in constant communication with Raila Odinga despite belonging to rival camps just before the announcement of the contested 2022 polls.

Tribute to Raila

He went on to state how he brokered a meeting at Raila’s house, where he even got Raila to call William Ruto, who went on to win the presidency.

“We have come here as a team of Raila supporters during 2007, to offer our condolences. Many people misunderstood Raila, but those who strived to get close to him understood him and knew him very well. He was a man you would struggle to understand, very forgiving and reasonable,”

“After the 2022 elections, we used to talk every day. I went to visit him two days before the elections were announced. He was a person whom you struggled to understand, and very forgiving,” he stated.

The lawmaker also recalled his final conversations with Raila, recounting how the Orange Democratic Movement Leader (ODM) reassured him he was fine before his passing.

“Beyond politics, Raila was my father. I talked to him when he was in India, and we were to visit him with Junior, before the tragic news broke. We were very devastated,”he said.
