Ichung’wah insists no rift with Ruto, dismisses claims as fake news

National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah has rubbished claims of a fallout between Parliament and President William Ruto, terming the reports as fake news.

Speaking after a series of reports suggested friction over the President’s remarks on parliamentary oversight, Ichung’wah stated on his official facebook accout on wednesday, August 20, 2025 that the speculation was being pushed to seek for attention.

“IGNORE all these FAKE NEWS from gutter press designed to generate following for their githeri media outfits,” Ichung’wah said, maintaining that Parliament continues to work in harmony with the Executive under Ruto’s leadership.

The Kikuyu MP emphasised that the legislature respects the President’s authority while remaining independent in its constitutional duties.

“While the Constitution gives Parliament immense powers as the legislature, we DO NOT threaten anybody leave alone the President who is our team leader,” he said.

Ichung’wah clarified that the roles of the two arms of government are complementary, not antagonistic, and warned against misinterpretations meant to fuel political division.

“We work independently but with complimentary roles to deliver on our agenda. That is what we are focused on, and we respect William Samoei Ruto not just as the President but also as our team leader,” he said.

He defended Ruto’s right to comment on matters of governance, including parliamentary conduct, insisting that this did not signal interference but rather his duty as Head of State.

“As President, he has every right to state his views on any subject including the work of the legislature and call out what he may think needs to be rectified. That is the role he plays as President. We respect that as much as we appreciate our role in oversight of the other arms of Government,” Ichung’wah stated.

At the same time, he echoed Ruto’s recent call for Parliament to maintain integrity and protect its institutional reputation.

“As a legislature, we also recognise the need to uphold the dignity and integrity of the institution of Parliament as the President has stated,” he added.

Ichung’wah, however, took another swipe at sections of the media, accusing them of deliberately twisting statements to stir unnecessary controversy.

“Now, this gutter media can’t interpret that. They look for what will sell their online tabloids,” he said.

His remarks come at a time when the political climate has been charged with claims of emerging cracks within Kenya Kwanza. Ichung’wah’s message was a strong attempt to assure supporters that both arms of government remain united under Ruto’s leadership.
