‘I will never be in a losing camp’ – Waiguru says ahead of 2027 polls
By Bancy Lole, December 22, 2025Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru reiterated her national political intentions, saying she has consistently aligned herself with winning strategies throughout her career.
Speaking on December 22, 2025, she noted that she will not associate herself with losing camps.
“I will never be in a losing camp,” Waiguru said, emphasising that politics, in her view, must be guided by strategic calculation and realism rather than emotions or short-term excitement.
“I have accepted the call to serve at the national level, and I have no doubt that one day I will run for the presidency, but not in 2027. For now, my priority is to support President Ruto to complete his term,” Waiguru said.
She further tied her national ambitions to loyalty to President Ruto, pledging to back his administration while expanding her political footprint across the country, a stance that positions her firmly within the Kenya Kwanza power structure.
Political activity across Kirinyaga County is increasingly signalling a carefully choreographed effort by local political leaders to propel Waiguru onto the national stage as her second and final term draws to a close.
From public rallies and development launches to county assembly forums, Waiguru’s name has featured prominently in discussions about national leadership and future government appointments.

Kirinyaga leaders endorse Waiguru
At the centre of this push is Kirinyaga County Assembly Speaker Muteti Murimi, who has repeatedly cited Waiguru’s development record as the foundation for her national suitability.
“Governor Waiguru has implemented projects that many thought were impossible in Kirinyaga. That kind of leadership is what Kenya needs at the national level. She is ripe for a bigger responsibility and can greatly support President Ruto in transforming this country,” said Muteti.
Muteti linked Waiguru’s readiness to the anticipated implementation of the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report, urging President Ruto to prioritize leaders with proven governance credentials, particularly from Kenya Kwanza strongholds. Kirinyaga County Assembly Majority Leader Benson Ngahu said the county’s leadership has collectively endorsed Waiguru for a national role.
“What Governor Waiguru has done in Kirinyaga can be done across Kenya. When the President implements the NADCO report, Waiguru should be seriously considered. She has proved she is capable of handling national responsibilities,” Ngahu emphasized.
Waiguru has also dismissed suggestions of a possible alliance with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, stating she has no intention of joining a political formation she believes lacks a clear path to victory.
