Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka has congratulated Erick Wekesa following his election as the new Kabuchai-Chwele Member of County Assembly, MCA-elect.

Lusaka took to his Facebook page on Friday, November 28, 2025, to convey his congratulations to the youthful candidate who defied the dominant Ford Kenya wave to clinch the seat as an independent candidate.

“I wish to take this opportunity to sincerely congratulate the MCA elect for Chwele–Kabuchai, Eric Wekesa. I have known you since 2013, fresh from university and already a committed candidate under my then party,” he stated.

Lusaka lauded the candidate for his dogged determination, as he urged the people to rally behind their new grassroots leader.

“Your persistent quest to lead the people of Chwele–Kabuchai is a true testament to your passion for service and your unwavering dedication to your community.

“The people have spoken, and they have spoken loudly. Welcome to the leadership of Bungoma. I look forward to working together as we serve our people and continue building a greater Bungoma. I also wish to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Malava MP-elect, David Ndakwa. You worked hard, you remained focused, and you truly deserved this victory,” he added.

Wekesa secured the seat by defying the Ford Kenya boss, Moses Wetang’ula, and the party’s dominant green wave in the urban region of the Kabuchai constituency.

He enjoyed support from unlikely quarters, with area MP Majimbo Kalasinga and Trans Nzoia governor George Natembeya, among the notable proponents of his bid

In his message of congratulations, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula hailed the winners of the November 27, 2025, by-elections, urging leaders to prioritise national cohesion even as political competition intensifies.

Wetang’ula, who voted in the Kabuchai Ward contest, only made a general statement on all the victors from the polls.

“Congratulations to all victorious candidates in the bye elections. May our democracy flourish forever. We have a cardinal duty to protect our national unity and cohesion as we move towards the 1st world stage.”
