Gachagua vows sweeping overhaul of healthcare, education if elected president in 2027
By Mustafa Juma, May 3, 2026Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has promised a wide-ranging transformation of Kenya’s healthcare, education, and governance systems should he win the presidency in the 2027 General Election.
Taking to his official social media accounts moments after addressing residents of Kimana, Kajiado County, on Sunday, May 3, 2026, Gachagua criticised the current state of national affairs, arguing that many citizens are facing hardship due to what he termed as governance failures.
The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader said the 2027 election will be a decisive moment for the country, describing it as an opportunity to “resuscitate” Kenya and restore essential public services.
He pledged that his administration would prioritise rebuilding key sectors, including healthcare, education, agriculture, and public security.
“We hold the truth and the undeniable fact that Kenya deserves better governance, security, education, healthcare, and the promise of a better future. Liberty, better life, and pursuit of a better Kenya shall be the lifeline on 10th August 2027,” Gachagua stated.

Criticism of current systems
The former DD painted a bleak picture of the current situation, citing challenges in hospitals, schools, and the cost of living.
He claimed that citizens are struggling under rising healthcare costs, despite deductions made through national health schemes, and that families are uncertain about school fees and basic services.
“If anything, Kenyans have stood their ground across the country, each payslip holder, patients in hospitals aren’t enjoying medical care or sure of how to pay medical bills despite heavy deductions and pay through profiteering SHA fraudulent schemes,” he said.

He also raised concerns over insecurity, farmer livelihoods, and investor confidence, saying many Kenyans feel uncertain about the future.
Governance failure
Gachagua accused unnamed leaders of mismanagement and exploitation of national resources, claiming that key public systems have deteriorated under the current administration.
He further claimed that corruption and poor policy decisions have negatively affected essential services and economic stability.
Gachagua’s reform agenda
If elected, Gachagua promised to restore stability in healthcare, improve access to quality education, strengthen agricultural productivity, and reinforce security across the country.
He also pledged to strengthen the rule of law and tackle corruption within government institutions.
“But, 10th August 2027 provides an opportunity to resuscitate our beloved Country Kenya and send this clueless regime home one way; once we take over leadership, Kenyans will get back their Education, Healthcare, social security, freedom of the media, productive agriculture will be back and the corrupt oligarchy will face the rule of law,” he wrote on social media.
His remarks come amid rising political activity and early positioning ahead of the 2027 General Election, with leaders increasingly outlining competing visions for the country’s future.
